Terms of Use
The rules for using Serpavo and this website — including what to keep in mind when you ride with it.
1. Scope
These terms apply to the iPhone app Serpavo and the website serpavo.donner.io. The provider is Dennis Donner, Eduard-v-Winterstein-Straße 11, 14480 Potsdam, Germany (app-support@donner.io). For the app, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA) also applies; these terms add to it.
2. The app
Serpavo plans motorcycle routes and round trips, navigates with voice prompts, records rides with an estimated lean angle and exports them as GPX. Map, place search and routing work offline with map packages you download in the app. The app is free and has no in-app purchases.
3. Safety while riding
Your attention belongs to the road. Serpavo helps with planning and navigation; responsibility for the ride stays with you.
- Do not operate the app while riding. Set the destination, route and settings before you set off or when you have stopped safely. Rely on the voice prompts while moving.
- Traffic rules come first. Road signs, traffic lights, closures, police instructions and the rules of the road always take precedence over the app’s instructions.
- Routes come without guarantee. Routes, map data, the curve score and time estimates come from open data and automatic calculation. They can be incomplete or out of date and may lead onto roads that are closed, unpaved, private, seasonally closed, too narrow or otherwise unsuitable for you or your motorcycle. Check the route and adapt your riding to road, weather, traffic and your own ability.
- The lean angle is an estimate. It is calculated from your iPhone’s motion sensors, can be inaccurate and is not a measuring instrument. It is not a target or a challenge — never ride to reach a value.
- Mount and sound. Use a secure handlebar mount that does not block your view or controls, and set the volume of voice prompts so that you still hear traffic.
- The app does not replace your own route knowledge, a paper map or emergency equipment. A failing battery, signal or device can interrupt navigation at any time.
4. Map data and licences
Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). The map packages contain further data from OpenMapTiles (CC BY 4.0), Natural Earth and the Mapzen Terrain Tiles. The app uses open-source software such as MapLibre Native and Valhalla under their licences. All notices are listed in the app under Settings → Licenses. Their licence terms remain unaffected by these terms.
5. Your data and backups
Your rides and routes are stored on your iPhone only. I have no copy and cannot restore them. Use iPhone backups or the GPX export to keep a copy. How the app handles data is described in the Privacy Policy.
6. Availability and changes to the app
I keep improving Serpavo and may change, add or remove features and map regions with updates, as long as this is reasonable for you. I cannot guarantee that the app, the download of map packages or this website are always available and free of errors, or that the app works on older devices and iOS versions.
7. Rights to the app
The app, its design, texts and graphics are protected by copyright. You receive the right to use the app for your own purposes according to Apple’s standard EULA. You may not decompile, resell or redistribute the app except where the law allows it. Open-source components and map data are subject to their own licences.
8. Liability
I am liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the Product Liability Act and where I have given a guarantee. For slight negligence I am only liable for the breach of an essential contractual obligation — one whose fulfilment makes the proper use of the app possible and on which you may regularly rely — and limited to the damage that is typical and foreseeable for this kind of contract. Otherwise, liability for slight negligence is excluded. These limitations also apply in favour of my representatives and agents.
9. Apple
Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app, its content, maintenance or support. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of Apple’s EULA and may enforce it against you.
10. Applicable law
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). If you are a consumer with your habitual residence in another country, the mandatory consumer protection provisions of that country remain unaffected.
11. Changes to these terms
The version shown here applies; important changes are announced with the app update.
